Bethany Rose

Hello I'm Beth… Mama, wife and midwife. I live in Suffolk with my husband, daughter and German Shepherd Murphy!

Being a midwife means the absolute world to me and since qualifying in 2016 I have never looked back.

I was a student at the University of Suffolk and witnessed my first home birth as a student midwife. This beautiful birth sparked a passion in me and I knew in which direction my midwifery career would head.

Once qualified, I moved to Essex and worked full time in a standalone birth centre. Here I strengthened my knowledge in physiological birth and was privileged to witnessed and support women and families with their home and birth centre births. This was the best start I could have ever asked for in my career and gave me an incredible amount of experience as a newly qualified midwife.

I moved out to Dubai in 2019 and spent 18 months working within a high-risk labour ward environment. I treasure the memories and experiences I had in this role, but it confirmed that labour wards just aren't the place for me! I did however meet some incredible colleagues and was very lucky to work in a diverse cultural environment, caring for families from all parts of the globe. I really enjoyed learning about different birthing cultures and practices and am so thankful for this opportunity.

Moving back to the UK (two days before worldwide covid lockdown!!) I briefly worked in Surrey - helping to set up a new home birth team, then transferred a few months later to a local homebirth and birth centre team in Hampshire.

My daughter arrived in 2021 and I experienced wonderful midwifery care from my midwives and best friends, but sadly didn’t get the home birth I had planned. I understand the heartache that may come from not achieving the birth you wish, and how birth trauma can impact future pregnancy and birth planning. I understand the need for support from individuals that you fully trust, and have first-hand felt the benefits that this support and care brings.

Ultimately, my NHS career and my own birth experience led me to becoming an independent midwife in December 2023. We had a move back to Suffolk planned and everything pointed to this being the perfect opportunity for me to practice in the way that I wanted to. In the NHS I missed being able to spend quality time with families, and there was no opportunity to provide true continuity of care within this system. Nothing makes me happier than being able to support clients and their families throughout pregnancy, birth and the fourth trimester and I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to do this now.

It’s a cliché saying, but being a midwife is in my blood and I really cannot imagine doing anything else. I would absolutely love to be able to support you on your journey, so please send me a message if you'd like to get in touch.

Why Independent Midwifery?

I moved to the independent world, as I couldn’t shake that feeling of needing the connection and the ability to spend quality time with women and their families before, during and after their births. I can see the difference that it made to the few NHS families I was able to provide this for, but with the ever changing environment of the NHS, the chance to provide this holistic care was reducing. Having your own independent midwife enables you to develop a deep bond with your midwife and have a trusting relationship that makes you feel supported with every aspect of your care, at all times.

I will be there with you for every decision that you make in regards to your care and choices. I use national, local and worldwide guidelines to underpin my work, making sure you feel informed and supported. However, I firstly look at things in a holistic, physiological approach and most importantly guide you to listen to the most important thing - your intuition and gut instincts. No ones thoughts or opinions matter more than yours... You and your family will always be at the absolute centre of my care.

If you have any questions about how I may be able to support you in your journey, please get in touch.
